This week, some of us with Career Edge Organization's marketing team registered for the "unGeeked Elite" conference in Toronto - a three day social media, branding and marketing retreat. Their website explains it best:

unGeeked Elite Retreat is your three day retreat where you will experience "some of the formality of a conference," and a lot of the informality of retreat. The 3-days are designed to foster not only an "intimate learning experience," but

Continuing on the recent theme of "sweet success," Career Edge Organization paid a visit to Lindt & Sprungli Canada's downtown Toronto head office. Lindt & Sprungli are behind some of the most delicious chocolates on the market and, judging by what we saw, the work environment is equally delicious. First of all, chocolate was everywhere. At the front reception desk (where most organizations keep mints and business cards) are individually wrapped Lindor truffles.  Nothing says "Welcome!" ... read more

Picture this: amidst a skills and talent crunch, an organization’s most senior leaders and top-performers retire, taking with them much more than a gold watch – 30 or more years of experience and intimate knowledge of the company. As middle managers move up to fill the gaps, new gaps will appear, until the entire organization from top to bottom is riddled with vacancies – and customers hanging in the balance. Suddenly recent grads of the Y generation will be at the ... read more

A record 108,700 jobs were added to Canada's economy in April according to Stats Canada, signalling growth and better times to come. A large portion of this increase (approximately 2/3) was men over 25 years old returning to the workforce. 65,000 of the jobs were part-time and 44,000 were full-time! This has taken everyone by surprise, as the growth is four times the consensus forecast. And while increases ... read more

If you found the title of this blog post confusing, then you have a taste of how Millennials (which is another term for Gen Y, your under 30 coworkers) often feel at the workplace, especially recent graduates who are in their first real professional role. This group is often referred to as Gen Y because of their tendency to ask why at every given opportunity. It is definitely a characteristic that - while not true for every single gen Y individual ... read more

It has been unusually quiet in the office this week. Over the past few days, Career Edge Organization has had a strong presence at the National Consultation on Career Development and Workforce Learning conference, better known as NATCON. Having attended in the past as delegates, this year we were invited by the Conference Board of Canada to deliver two engaging presentations on subject matters within our areas of expertise. On Monday, our President & CEO, Anne Lamont, delivered an informative and practical workshop ... read more
