It takes determination to overcome the challenges of living with a disability of any kind.  Despite this, you have achieved your educational goals while managing your disability and are now ready to launch your career.  Our participating private, public and not-for-profit sector employers are committed to offering qualified new graduates with disabilities access to meaningful, paid internship opportunities within supportive and professional work environments.

Working in your chosen field through a four to 12-month paid internship will give you the confidence and valuable real-world business experience you need to launch your career.

Who’s eligible for Career Edge’s Internship Program for New Graduates with Disabilities?

Graduates with self-declared disabilities who:

  • have recently graduated (within three years) from a university or college;
  • have little or no career related work experience;
  • are legally able to work in Canada;
  • have not previously accepted an offer for paid internship from Career Edge.

How do I get started?

Step 1: Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria listed above and click here to complete the online application form.

Step 2:  View and apply to internship opportunities in your field, if your application is approved after a short screening interview that will be scheduled within 2 business days of your registration.

Step 3: Career Edge host employers select applicants that best suit their current employment requirements.  An offer of employment will be presented to successful candidates.

Successful New Graduates with Disabilities will obtain:

  • a four to 12-month paid internship with reputable employers;
  • a monthly stipend of $2,200.00, less standard tax deductions;
  • real-world experience and the confidence to jump start your career;
  • provision of on-the-job coaching and mentoring;
  • professional networking opportunities.

How to Adjust the Website Contrast Settings

To adjust your browser’s colour settings to create a high or soft contrast version of the website, please follow the step-by-step accessibility modifications listed below. Note: Our website has been optimized for browser modifications made in Internet Explorer 8.

Internet Explorer 8

  1. Open the Tools menu. Use your mouse or press Alt and T on your keyboard.
  2. Select Internet Options. Use your mouse or press Alt and O on your keyboard.
  3. Select the Accessibility button. Use your mouse or press Alt and E on your keyboard.
  4. Check the box "Ignore colours specified on web page". Use your mouse or press Alt and C on your keyboard
  5. To confirm your choice and return to Internet Options press Enter on your keyboard or click the OK icon. The text and backgrounds on websites will now display the colour scheme set on your computer. If you are satisfied with this colour scheme, press OK or hit Enter on your keyboard to return to the browser.
  6. In the still-open Internet Options box, use your mouse to select the Colours button or press Alt and O.
  7. Uncheck the default "Use Windows Colours" option. Use your mouse or press Alt and W on your keyboard to de-select the check mark.
  8. Select the Text button. Use your mouse or press Alt and T on your keyboard. You must de-select "Use Windows Colours" before this will work
  9. Use the mouse or use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select your preferred text colour and press the Spacebar to select. Repeat Steps 8 and 9 for the background colour (Alt and B), visited links (Alt and I) and unvisited links (Alt and N), if desired
  10. Use your mouse to click OK or hit Enter on your keyboard to return to Internet Options.
  11. Use your mouse to click OK or hit Tab on your keyboard until OK is selected, and press Enter on your keyboard to return to the browser.
